Freedom of Necessity

bookaxiom by axiom

Working title: Freedom of Necessity: God, Brain, and the Order of the Mind. A book written axiom by axiom, in the geometric order of Spinoza's Ethics. Its thesis is a modern pantheism. There is one order, Nature, and the mind is the body's own organization described from within. Freedom isn't escape from causes. It's knowing where a cause comes from and acting from that knowledge. It's part of the Neuresthetics research, which goes back to before AI tools existed.

The quickest way in is the current rough draft, Axioms of Necessity v11. It's the whole book in 162 short verses that you can open at any page.

1. There is one order, and it has no outside. Whatever is, is in it. Call it God, or Nature.

90. Freedom doesn't need that you could have done otherwise, given all that came before. It needs that what you did came from you.

152. An explanation is a lamp, not a proof. It shows where to look, and it tests what is offered as evidence, though never the evidence for itself; only evidence that holds up settles what you find.

How it's written

Each entry is a definition, axiom, or proposition, and cites the entries it builds on. Every entry is tagged by kind (true by definition, backed by evidence, or a model) so philosophy can't pass itself off as science. The arc starts from the barest claim: an I exists, finds it is a body, finds the body is a whole, and finds it is a member of something larger.

id: A1
kind: root
text: "I exist."
# the only claim that can't be revised (candidate core v2)

How it's checked

A claim and its negation are each argued at full strength, and only what survives on checked evidence is kept. Before a run, each side has to say what result would prove it wrong. No entry can be more confident than its weakest support. The scoring harness runs on a local open-weights model.

Status

  • Verse draft: v11, after a fallacy audit. It's frozen as the tag keeper-2026-10-01.
  • Core v2: a rebuilt core, starting from "I exist," is in candidates/core_v2/. Its dependencies have been checked, and it has had one full collider pass by hand.
  • Entries in force: the committed entries/ stay in force until core v2 is promoted.
  • Scores: none are valid right now. The old numbers are kept only as history.
